I'm trying to follow your example. Getting set up for a commute isn't easy though.
Do you schlep anything? Computer, clothes etc? How do you handle cleaning up when you get to work? Those are two of the things I'm experimenting with. Curious what you do.
Dragged a computer exactly once! Won't do that again.
I drive one every week or two and leave a bunch of clothes there, take a small backpack once a week with more socks and sundries. We have showers at work and I hope you do too, cause I see doing without it.
I didn't even think about the sprint line piece of the Fremont sign! I was trying to make it obvious where I was.
I'm going the "other" commuting style direction. I don't like all the pre-planning involved with caching clothes at both locations, and I need to be able to carry a laptop.
http://www.arkel-od.com makes great bags for this with good covers, and I got a seatpost rack and clip-on fenders. It may dorky but I'm going to get some miles in without cashing in too many Relationship Points(tm) by getting them on the commute. The fenders and rack were tested this weekend (worked great) and I can't wait for the bags to show up.
I've already been doing it now around a week and it's not bad but I can't wait to ditch the backpack.
All credit to you for giving me the inspiration though. Knowing you do it lets me know its possible if I just go for it.
A couple last questions if you're still reading back here in the comments on this old post - what do you do about clothing in the rain? By that I mean rain jackets or shoe covers or saddle coverage etc? Anything or do you just enjoy the wet?
Hey Mike, Glad to see the bike commuting is in store for you.
Rain: 'water proof', fleece lined booties, ski-style cycling gloves (I HATE cold feet or hands), and a light weight rain jacket. Fenders as well.
Definitely like to equip myself for the rain, though less than an hour isn't much of a problem for me, so commuting is fine. my problem is weekend rides in the rain. I can't do more than 2 hours.
