anyone know if the old bridge had a name? I know that the dumbarton was built in the 80's but was there a bridge for cars before it? or did you have to drive under the bay?
So the old DB used to run along the frontage road we now ride our bikes on. They built the road the cars are on when they built the new DB. The old DB was only one lane each way. The Toll Plaza was at the top by the park.
So does that mean where the people fish now is where the old bridge took off? Cause that's what is at the end of the frontage road. Did it have a draw bridge for ships. Cause I understand bigger ships used to go all the way to Alviso.
Yeah it was a form of a draw bridge (not sure if it swung out or lifted, don't remember) and the pier is pretty much the last bit of it. Another fact, the current 84 road with the toll plaza, the dirt used for that came from the Quarry by Coyote Creek Park that you can see as you approach the toll plaza.

By the way: thanks for the info Jason. Did not know that the frontage road was the bridge.
